The Kurialacherry House homestay offers 3 guest cottages tastefully appointed with antiques highlighting the original grandeur of this 80-year-old family compound on the banks of the Pookaitha River.

Venerable Thomas Kurialacherry (January 14, 1873 – February 6, 1925) was a member of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, and was the first bishop, of what would become the Archdiocese of Changanassery. He also founded the Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. In 1935, ten years after his death, his Cause of Canonisation was initiated giving him the title "Servant of God". On April 2, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI, in an audience with Cardinal Angelo Amato, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, approved (along with the advancement of many other sainthood causes) a statement saying that Bishop Kurialachery had lived a life of heroic virtue. This gave him the additional title of "Venerable".
After dinner by 7:30 local fisher men report you at Kurialacherry. He is coming to give you some tips of fishing after his day today work. On the way he asks you to spread tapioca power which is in your bag given by Chakochen at the time when you start from house. He will guide you how to do fishing with bow and arrow, spear fishing, net fishing.
On return journey some shrimp or crabs are seen having the tapioca powder which you put on the way. You can catch them with spear. Your catches will be served on next day lunch.
If you are interested in cooking or ready to taste the flavours of south Indian food then surely go for it. Usha a house wife lives in Champakulam will lead you to the cooking classes. You can ask her for a traditional Kuttanad dish in your cooking demo. She is very much excited to teach you. Do you prefer a cooking demo with fresh vegetables picked from our garden? Try it.

You will be accompanied by Sandeep a college going guy who earns his pocket money through showing you the land. He is a 2nd year graduation student he knows very well about the land. You will be happy to see the fencing made by plants. The charm of village is not yet fully gained by the concrete walls. Thanks to the local people. They are still happy with the plant fencing. On the way church and temple are there for giving you the feel of holiness. But still the peace which you are going to get from the nature is different. You may be waving hands for school bus but here its different. A boat rows through the lake oh my god ! it is a school boat. Giggles of students are hearing. They are happy with the end of a school day. Now their time starts for leisure. At the banks of river some people are taking bath, washing clothes. They are busy with their chit chat.
Here the border line is decided by the paddy fields. Is it the end of our tour? No ways. Please raise your head the coconut tree is now the nest of birds. Who told you human is the best architect in land. Nature says you are wrong. Thukanam Kuruvi Aka Attakuruvi known in local language is none other than weaver bird. Morning 7 am and evening 4:30 Pm are the suggested time. Babychen your guide cum boatman will report you on time. Professionally an agrarian he do canoe service for an additional income. Snake boats, requiring 85 rowers, 5 steer men, and 6 drummers to keep the rhythm, are racing boats. Competitions are held 15 times a year throughout Kerala. Arriving at the school, you will first meet the Head Teacher and then proceed to every class level where you will chat with the children and hand out snacks. At the end of our visit, all class levels will congregate in one room where you will have the opportunity to speak about your home country, your travels, etc. The children always enjoy these visits and learning about other peoples and cultures.

This was the only room in our property, when we started the home stay. This room is more than 100 year old. Built entirely in wood, this room was our rice granary which stored rice from our own paddy field. This also has an open shower and an open varandha with river view.
This room is very much closer to the bank of river and constructed with half wood and half bricks. Room have an upper deck which is facing to the river. It also has open shower.
This is a great place, full of peace with a great team and marvelous manager, Jacob. He is taking care of his guest with lot of joy and passion. This gives you a feel like home.
